AlDub-inspired songs: Creating a new wave in OPM

AlDub-selfie (2)The power of AlDub, the split-screen loveteam of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza aka Yaya Dub has definitely come a long way, even breaking barriers into the OPM industry as it has inspired people and fans alike in introducing new songs as another big push for OPM.

AlDub has also marked another breaking record recently on Twitter. On Saturday, 26th of September, in celebration of the National Pabebe Wave Day, the hashtag #ALDubEBforLove made 25.6M tweets, topping that of its last record on September 19 of over 12M tweets for the hashtag #ALDubMostAwaitedDate.

God Gave Me You

Pambansang Bae Alden Richards couldn’t help but be emotional last Saturday as he granted Lola Nidora’s wish to sing the AlDub theme song “God Gave Me You” in dedication to Meng, Yaya Dub’s nickname and as the start of his official courtship to Yaya Dub.

Alongside the popularity of AlDub is the continued popularity of the song God Gave Me You by Bryan White. Before the song became the AlDub theme song, it’s been a favourite in the country but it became an ever bigger hit when AlDub started to rise among netizens.

The popularity of the song has even reached the attention of Bryan White. He thanked AlDub and its fans for the strong support to his song. He also announced his excitement to meet AlDub and the fans as he is set to stage a concert called God Gave Me You Tour on December 1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, 8pm. Tickets for the concert is already out through Ticketnet ranging from Php 500 for general admission to Php 5,000 for VIP. Singing contest for AlDub

In support for the even more expanding influence of the loveteam, Eat Bulaga – the program in which AlDub’s popular Kalye Serye is aired daily at noontime has recently launched a songwriting contest for AlDub-inspired songs to encourage more fans and aspiring musicians to join in and show their unique and creative musicality.

GMA’s longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga presented some songs among others, composed and written by AlDub fans, musicians and YouTube sensations.

The line-up includes “The Aldub Song” by Keiko Necesario and siblings Isaiah and Andrai Antonio, “Yaya” by Jimmy Bondoc, “Aldub Song (Sandali Na Lang)” performed by Eurika with words and music by Lloyd Mara, “Sa Tamang Panahon” by Famela Ricerra and Nicolas Lacap, “That’s My Yaya Dub” by Mikey Bustos, “Ika’y Biyaya” by Kulas Basilonia, “Sotanghon” by Sid Chiong and a special inclusion to “Kahit Sa Panaginip Na Lang” by Join The Club.

A trio of musicians and friends composed of PhilPop 2012 finalist Keiko Necesario, YouTube sensation The Antonio Duo of Isaiah and Andrai Antonio share they had the most fun writing and recording for their tribute song to AlDub. They also added a recorded version will be out soon. The video has already garnered more than 390,000 YouTube views.

Singer-composer Jimmy Bondoc also comes out with his own original song for AlDub. The song, written in Filipino also makes creative use of the popular AlDub terms such as “AlDub you,” “tamang panahon” and “maAlden kita.” His video now has more than 350,00 views.

YouTube sensation-singer Mikey Bustos can’t be left out either as he pens a song dedicated to Yaya Dub in just two days. He shared his original song and video That’s My Yaya Dub on his Instagram. The video shows clips of Yaya Dub’s dubsmash videos and scenes from Kalye Serye. It now has more than 69,000 views.
