Christian Bautista: Illustrating Romantic Emotions through “Soundtrack”

Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista has spent his career crafting pop ballad hits like  “The Way You Look at Me,” “Colour Everywhere” and “Hands to Heaven” after taking center stage at ABS-CBN’s “Star in a Million” as a finalist. Being considered as one of the most proficient vocal ranges that can be found in Filipino ballads, he has an interesting flair in songs that are blending genres.Christian Bautista - Soundtrack (8)

With a refreshing take to some popular movie theme songs, the singing heartthrob ushers an all-cover release entitled “Soundtrack.” Currently soaring to higher heights (and the charts), he has been exploring not only in the Philippines but in Southeast Asia such as Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

He has earned raves from critics about his theater debut with a number of hit and iconic productions like “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,”  “Joseph The Dreamer,” “West Side Story,“ “Rama Hari,” “Cinderella,” and “The Kitchen Musical.”

Christian Bautista: Soundtrack and Collaborations

Christian’s latest effort is a collaborative tribute and not part of the album; with Filipino rock band vocalist  Basti Artadi and rapper Gloc-9, they framed the song “Bagong Siglo that talks about the new Filipino generation. Video below by Christian Bautista.

Former sweetheart Rachelle Ann Go joins him in their rendition of “The Way We Were.” Julie Ann San Jose and Christian go “Cruisin’” in a new duet, while Nikki Gil lends her beautiful voice in the duet “Come What May.” And perennial stage leading lady Karylle performs the romantic “After All” with Christian. This is the first time the two performed a studio duet together.Christian Bautista - Soundtrack (6)

Christian also bares his heart in his rendition of “A Thousand Years,” theme of the phenomenal hit movie series “Twilight.” The album’s first single is “Up Where We Belong,” a theme from the movie “An Officer and a Gentleman” and also the theme song for GMA-7’s Korean drama “Empress Ki.” Video trailer below by GMA Network.

Channeling his edgier side, Christian sings “Kiss from a Rose” from the film “Batman Forever.” And with Everly Brother’s “Unchained Melody,” he received an Aliw Awards nomination for “Ghost The Musical.” Other songs included are “How Deep is Your Love,” “When You Say Nothing At All,” “Way Back Into Love,” “Love is All Around” and “Seasons of Love.” Album also available in iTunes, preview below courtesy of UniversalRecPh.

Perhaps, the most fascinating element about “Soundtrack” is how he interpreted these great pop ballads specially arranged for his vocal range as he bring everyone inside his heart. The selection of songs was a collaborative effort between him and his record company Universal Records.Christian Bautista - Soundtrack (1)

What Christian Bautista Sounds Like?

I have seen this guy render a few songs from concert appearances few years back yet I have always wanted to watch him live in full concert. Maybe he can visit Music Museum soon for a series of shows.

He smoothly glides into the press conference serenading all of us with his songs. His entire charm effortlessly works. Interviews from the media happened after lunch at Livestock, Quezon City.Christian Bautista - Soundtrack (7)

An insightful move is that he does more analysis to questions as he points out his intellect. “I’m doing my best to be relevant. I want to be like OPM icons Basil Valdez or Jose Mari Chan that with their age ay kumakanta pa rin hanggang ngayon,” tells Christian about the influx of many new talents especially from recent talent reality shows.Christian Bautista - Soundtrack (5) Christian Bautista - Soundtrack (4) Christian Bautista - Soundtrack (3)

He has been accomplishing more goals after his transition from ABS-CBN to GMA-7. What’s keeping him focus is that he doesn’t stop being positive, shares Christian. He may be a bit lagging behind Mark Bautista and Rachelle Ann Go’s breakthrough roles in theatre, but he still looks up to his dear friends about their achievements; super loud and proud!
