About 20,000 screaming fans and young audience will surely celebrate at Mall Of Asia Arena for “Darren Espanto D Birthday Concert” on May 29, 2015 as he remains to be the country’s youngest total star performer. He is a new breed of performer to showcase an outstanding dance moves and vocal prowess as he turns a year older.
I can still remember when he was rehearsing for his Music Museum debut concert. He is not too confident yet very determined to pull-off a great show. It was a good start and today is a different story, a better Darren Espanto.
And in lieu of this upcoming spectacular event, we are invited to an afternoon of music and dialogue at “Darren By Request” where this hardworking young man performs live online via Spinnr with a short interview after. Setlist includes covers like “Domino,” “A Thousand Years,” Hallelujah,” “One Moment in Time,” “All Of Me,” Thinking Out Loud,” and his first two singles “In Love Ako Sa Yo” and “Stuck.”
Work and life have been intense lately. It’s great to attend to such cozy blog events again and to meet blogger friends there. Tagging along my favorite press buddy, Len Armea, we’re up to something up close and personal with the star.
Q: How does it feel to be staging a concert in MOA?
DARREN: I was shocked kasi MOA Arena kaagad. I was a bit nervous but I’m very excited because it’s my first time to perform at MOA Arena. Medyo kinakabahan po ako sa magiging reaction ng tao pero sabi po nila the sales are going well and it’s almost sol dout. I’m hoping that it’s going to be a sold out concert.
Q: How do you take all these newfound success? What are the lessons from The Voice Kids that you’ll apply in having a solid career?
DARREN: It’s been less than a year since The Voice Kids. After po ng show, parang ang bilis po ng mga pangyayari and up until now I’m still adjusting but I’m enjoying everything that I do and I’m taking things step by step.
I always keep in mind to stay humble because without humility, you wouldn’t go as far as you would want to go and to always look back to where you’ve started. Sa The Voice po, hindi mo kailangang manalo para mapatunayan ang sarili mo. Just keeping doing your best, sabi po ni coach Sarah.
Q: What can we expect from your upcoming concert? What kind of songs will you perform?
DARREN: Marami pong pasabog and there are things that I’ll be doing for the first time. I’m very happy and I’m very excited to perform our setlist.
Meron po akong gagawin na acoustic, marami pong medley and ballads. We’re going to do prods that have the same effect as when we’re doing The Voice Kids and dancing. It’s the most dancing I’ve ever done than before. Masu-surpise po kayo kasi it’s super cool and hanggang end po I’m very excited to perform the setlist that they’ve given me.
Q: What do you do during your spare time and when not singing? What is your fallback career?
DARREN: I want to be a doctor or a nurse. I want to finish school. During me time, I do my homeworks. I also like to create music on my iPad or iPhone. I do Instacovers which I post on Instagram for fun and I also like to play with my Xbox like Call of Duty and Mindcraft. I usually Facetime my sister and text my friends back home.
While other The Voice Kids promised to watch the show, Darren will be joined by The Voice of the Philippines Season 1 Grand Champion Mitoy Yonting, The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 Grand Champion Jason Dy, The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 runner-up Alisah Bonaobra and host/actor Robi Domingo plus other surprise guests.
