PhilPop 2014, mainly advocates the preservation of Filipino music and empowers Filipino songwriters whose music can inspire and motivate a nation, is now accepting new song entries written in a popular or new song genre, or a fusion. They are opening the competition this early to give more time to promote for the songs that will compete in the finals. The songs must be original, unlicensed and unpublished to any format.
“This is our third year at hindi po namin akalain na aabot sa pangatlong taon. Very successful po kase ang second year namin at ‘di namin akalain na for the first time, ngayon lang na ang isang nanalo na grand prize winner ay kinikilala na ring isang hit. Hit sa radyo, iTunes at You Tube,” opens Philpop executive director and composer Maestro Ryan Cayabyab said that winning songs must also be competent in making it a hit. “Nagpapasalamat kami sa PhilPop kasi kasama namin kayo sa pagpapalaganap ng Philippine music,” adds Mr. C. “PhilPop helps push Filipino music in the society as the the competition is open to amateurs and professionals of all ages. Kung minor kailangan lamang na may parental consent at ito ay bukas rin para sa American citizen na may Filipino descent,” Mr. C states about some of its mechanics. More about the Competition Rules and Guidelines.

With our rich musical heritage and unique vibe, Philpop gives additional importance to the Filipino songwriters without competing with each other but to work hand in hand in pushing Filipino music. It aims to:
1. Provide a channel which Filipino songwriters can create new songs, discover new expressions or genres in popular music;
2. Spark a renewed awareness, enthusiasm, and pride in Philippine.We are welcomed by Cerchio’s delicious food with warm cheers from the gracious host, Patricia Hizon. We had fun talking to Mr. C as he shared stories about the first PhilPop, how songs make it to a hit, how people must react and connect to songs, how people behave in social media nowadays and more. Present in the launch were Adrienne Sarmiento Buenaventura (composer of Sometimes That Happens) with her interpreter Ace Libre (Never The Strangers), Lara Maigue (composer of Sa ‘Yo Na Lang Ako, Yumi Lacsamana (co-composer of Dati) and Kimpoy Feliciano (interpreter of Sana’y Pinatay Mo Na Lang Ako).
