After two successful runs in 2016 and 2017, the “Dirty Old Musical (D.O.M.)” returns to the stage from February 22 to March 23, 8 pm, with matinees on March 16 and 23, 3 pm.

Rock icon Jett Pangan returns to the theater, replacing John Arcilla as Freddie and adds a refresher to the Dirty Old Musical. Along with Jett Pangan, the musical also stars Robert Seña, Bo Cerrudo, Nonie Buencamino and Carlo Orosa with a powerhouse supporting cast consisting of Kitkat, Tricia Amper-Jimenez, Ima Castro, Neo Rivera, Katherine Tiuseco, Anthony Castillo, Matel Patayon, and Carlon Matobato completing the ensemble.

Dirty Old Musical, tells the story of The Bench Boys, an all-male ’80’s group which disbanded due to personal issues. After several decades, they attempt to reunite to hold a fundraising concert for an ailing former member.  It also tackles the wacky misadventures of ‘tito-hood’ and gives a glimpse of the personal struggles of five men dealing with mid-age crisis and all its telltale signs.

This original Filipino musical guarantees the audience relatable real-life comic sketches, whether they be the so-called millennials or titos and titas, with a soundtrack of well-loved and timeless OPM classics like “Kastilyong Buhangin,” “Mag-exercise Tayo Tuwing Umaga,” “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika,” Nosi Balasi,” “Mr. Kenkoy” and a whole lot more.

With more appealing stage design and lighting this time around, it enhances the musical experience and wows the audience of its dramatic content.

I’ve seen this musical from the beginning, its previous characters, rehearsals, and runs.  What has caught my attention is that D.O.M. has continuously developed and evolved into a more engaging and striking musical play that reflects contemporary Filipino values and influences.

Produced by Spotlight Artists Centre, Dirty Old Musical is directed by Dexter M. Santos, with musical direction by Myke Salomon, script by Rody Vera, set/production design by Mitoy Sta. Ana and lighting direction by John Batalla.
