I have seen a lot of good reviews and assessments about Maxie The Musical, the stage adaptation of the acclaimed film “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros.” Checkout this LINK reviewed by spotlighttheater.
Definitely, it’s one rare treat for local musicals and I would say that it’s a lot better than the movie mainly because it’s live featuring 30 original Filipino songs, composed by William Elvin Manzano, JJ Pimpinio and Janine Santos. Playwright by Nic Pichay, it’s a theater musical which generally enriches Filipino culture and language. The performances stands out in all aspects of every character playing the role showcasing the powerful and prevalent emotions, flirting humor, styling beaucon and interdicting love.
The very effective multi-level stage setup embraces families and communities in the slums of Sampaloc. My favorite songs include the reminiscent “Gising Gising,” “Kupal,” “Pelikula” and “Perdido Eden,” all OPM. For me, Jayvhot Galang’s performance in the title role is very charming along with fabulous and high-energy comic scenes with his friends played by Aaron Ching, Teetin Villanueva and Nomer Limatog Jr. Congratulations to all the people behind Maxie The Musical’s success!
