“Thank you Manila for a warm reception and being patient with the power failure. We have been treated very good here,” tweets @BoyGeorge, lead singer of Culture Club, after a successful one-night concert at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum on June 18, 2016.
Culture Club members Jon Moss (drums and percussion), Mikey Craig (bass), and Roy Hay (guitar and keyboards) performed as a part of the 12-piece band who backs up Boy George (vocals). This show in the Philippines is part of a 40-city tour of the iconic group in over 12 years, which includes cities in the U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, Australia and Japan.
A glittering classic 80’s pop music filled the Big Dome with reminiscence. “His voice is still exemplary as it is decades ago,” tells fans from our nearby seat. His music is timeless indeed that it clearly gave us a picture of what the ’80s concert scene was back then.
They are dancing and singing through the cult classics “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?,” “Church of the Poison Mind,” “It’s a Miracle,” “I’ll Tumble For Ya,” “Move Away,” “Everything I Own,” “Miss Me Blind,” “Victims,” “Black Money,” “War Song” and “Karma Chameleon.” He also sung ‘Starman,’ a tribute to his musical hero, the late David Bowie.
There’s no stopping the good variety of memorable Culture Club songs even with the venue’s power failure that temporarily interrupted the concert. Iconic Boy George showed a remarkable wit, warmth and musicality amongst the Filipino fans. Donning his signature hat, he had two outfits throughout the night and a vibrant ’80s make-up for a more old-fashioned look.
In the 80’s, the band dominated the charts in over a dozen countries, with multi-platinum albums and more than 50 million albums sold worldwide to date. In 2014, Culture Club reunited to create new music and has been in the studio putting the finishing touches on their new album. Tribes is available now for pre-order, set to release later this year. The band recently headlined iHeart Radio’s 2016 “iHeart 80s Party” at The Forum in L.A. to a packed crowd.
