Pouring the Love for OPM

It’s September and we know what that means – the start of the long holiday celebration in the country. And because it’s Ber months already, frequent afternoon and evening downpour is almost an everyday sight, along with even long hours on the road of course. But this is no season to fret, instead of letting the heavy downpour and traffic dampen our spirits, let music be our beacon of light amidst the rain and endless-like traffic.

Ebe Dancel sings ‘Hanggang Wala Nang Bukas’ for biopic film ‘Heneral Luna’

Former Sugarfree frontman Ebe Dancel lends his pen and voice for the song “Hanggang Wala Nang Bukas” – the theme song for the Jerrold Tarog (Sana Dati) historical biopic film “Heneral Luna” starring John Arcilla in the title role of military man Antonio Luna. The director also played the drums for the song. The song will also be included in Ebe’s upcoming album.

Ebe reveals that the song is inspired by the film’s message of hope, courage and passion. “I think there should be a little General Luna in all of us. Let us not be afraid to stand up for the things we believe in,” adds Ebe about his reaction to the film.

Personally, he feels hopeful, excited, inspired yet sad and tragic after seeing the film and it took him awhile to figure out his next steps on writing the song. And just like General Luna, Ebe tends to be utterly passionate for the things he believes in. He adds, “It’s easy to misunderstand someone so passionate as General Luna.”

Heneral Luna features the story of Antonio Luna, one of Philippine history’s most gifted military men and an influential character during the Philippine-American war that resulted in the country’s eventual independence. He was assassinated by men of Emilio Aguinaldo.

The singer discloses that it was a big adjustment leaving General Luna to transitioning as a solo artist, as well as after having taken some time off from singing. She gushes; her debut album is a representation of her confidence, strength and continued passion for music. She considers watching the instruments come together especially on elements she hadn’t worked with before as the best part of the recording process.

Nicole calls it nervous excitement on the way she feels about her solo album. It’s also a big risk because now she doesn’t have the identity of a band to mix with. She adds that studio singing is still a challenge to her than live gigs, but she’s thankful for the guidance of Angee Rozul, to her collaborators, production and MCA.
