‘Akalain Mo ‘Yun Concert’: Marking the 17th year Milestone of OPM rock band Mayonnaise

Jovelyn Bajo-Calingo, July 4, 2019

The iconic OPM rock band Mayonnaise commemorated their 17-year musical career through a concert billed as “Akalain Mo ‘Yun.”  Presented by One Music PH and Gabi Na Naman Productions, the show includes an elegant mix of greatest hits as well as new materials.

Backed up by the Manila String Machine, the band is joined by the country’s finest OPM artists like Kai Honasan and Josh Villena of Autotelic, I Belong to the Zoo, Agsunta, and Sharlene San Pedro.

Akalain Mo ‘Yun concert serves as the most significant event in the history of Mayonnaise. As the title suggests, it’s about the possibility of making things happen even after a long period of time—perhaps Mayonnaise knows the best secret to success and longevity as a band. It’s their first headlining sold-out concert in 17 years.

Looking back, Mayonnaise first entranced Filipino music fans during the Red Horse Muziklaban competition. Yet Mayonnaise remains to be one of the consistently excellent Filipino bands of their generation. Composed of four members namely Monty Macalino (guitars & vocals), Shan Regalado (drums), Carlo Servano (lead guitars), Nikki Tirona (bass & vocals), and Maan Furio (rhythm guitars & vocals)—they all contribute to the creative process of the band since day one.

Mayonnaise vowed to give fans a whole night of awesome music and a wide range of emotions all throughout the intimate night—with devoted fans singing along to every lyric, screaming and clapping to every performance.

Two of the band’s most popular tracks—“Bakit Part 2” and “Jopay”, played almost by the end of the show—were met with a passionate welcome from the audience. The songs taken off the band’s self-titled debut album must have kept the supporters and the band together all these years. Video courtesy of Frances Erika Villareal.

How about anticipating a bigger 20th-anniversary concert for Mayonnaise as early as now? The band’s career—spanning over two decades— just like their music is still going strong.

The day after the successful concert, Mayonnaise launched a new music video of their latest single, “Wag Mo Akong Iwan”  from the album “Gusto Ko Lang Kasama Ka Palagi Pero Hindi Pwede”. The music video features event host and MYX VJ Search 2019 finalist Eryka Lucas.
